A Candid Take on Alcohol

Why I Quit Alcohol, Came Back, and Quit Again

Listen up. For many, cracking open a cold bottle of beer, white wine or a fancy cocktail with friends is a norm. But I gotta say, the glorification of alcohol is one of society's strangest obsessions. I quit alcohol, started again, and then quit—once more. And now, I've got something to share.

The Rollercoaster Ride 🎢

Some years back, I stopped drinking and didn't for half a decade. Yeah, five years sober. But then, I went back to drinking, only to drop it again. Now, if you're wondering why I played this on-again, off-again game with alcohol, you're not alone.

Lately, I've been tuning into a Dutch podcast called "Honest about Alcohol." I thought I had it all figured out but let me tell you, the revelations are nothing short of mind-blowing. Here's the insider info that you gotta know.

The Struggle Is Real 🤼‍♂️

This podcast gets it right—quitting ain't a walk in the park. Nearly no one nails it on the first try. I didn't, and chances are, you won't either. And that's okay. Just like anything tough in life, it's a process.

A Killer in Disguise? 🔪

You know how everyone says a glass of wine a day keeps the doctor away? Big lie. Even a single glass per day boosts your odds of getting cancer. Just think about that. We're toasting to our health while poisoning our bodies. Absurd much?

The "Normalcy" Trap 🪤

Here's where things get wild. Society has programmed us to believe that drinking is "normal." Like, if you're not sippin' on something, you're the odd one out. This isn't just weird; it's messed up.

Peer Pressure: The Unseen Bully 👊

We've all been there. Friends pushing drinks your way, and some even ditch you if you say no. Peer pressure in the drinking culture is next-level toxic. I must say my friends have been very supportive. However, I hear of people who have been uninvited from social events just because they chose to abstain. Seriously, how messed up is that?

The Sober Perks 🌈

So, what happens when you actually manage to break free? Those who've quit don't just talk about dodging hangovers; they rave about having more energy, better sleep, and even skyrocketing productivity. And that’s not some magical mumbo jumbo; it’s real life.

Are You Enabling or Disabling Your Life? 🛑

This might be a hard and candid pill to swallow, but if you're still pouring drinks, you might be limiting yourself. That drink you have at the end of a stressful day could be draining your vitality, making you less capable, and who knows, maybe even setting you up for bigger problems down the line.

Taking Back Control 🎮

As someone who's been on both sides of the bar, I can say that life without alcohol isn't just manageable; it's preferable. I get more done, sleep like a baby, and the energy levels are very different.

A Challenge to My Clients—and You 🏆

Some of my clients want to drink less or quit entirely. To them, and to you, I say this: give it a go. Don't fall for society's tricks, and don't let peer pressure dictate your choices. It's your life, and you should get to live it on your terms, and nobody else's.

So, ready to defy norms and perhaps try life in the sober lane? The rewards, trust me, are more than worth it.
